Additional Ways to Promote Your Small Business Website

Your small business website should ideally attract some natural search engine visitors. However, there are a number of additional ways to send some visitors to your website – without spending a dime you would not have spent anyway…

Keep in mind that, although some of this will be integrated in your usual marketing, it still allows you to show people what you offer – before they have to contact you. Also keep in mind that some people may be curious – but not have the confidence to phone you and ask before they are reasonably sure about what they want. Others may really just be browsing – but they might use your services at a later stage, or recommend you to someone else.

1. Add the web address to your business cards. It takes up very little space, and adds to client’s perceived perception of your professionalism.

2. Add it to stationery – some of your stationery may end up in the hands of people who are not clients – for instance, a contractor may share the document with a sub-contractor, or someone who outsourced you may include your bill (or recommendations, etc.) in communications with a client.

3. Add it to all possible advertising – while it may not be possible to add it everywhere, do so wherever possible, from classifieds to billboards.

4. Vehicles – depending on what industry you work in, your vehicles may be visible regularly – use the advertising space. A web address or URL is usually quite short, and takes little time to read. If it was well chosen, many people will remember it, and visit your website at a later stage.

5. Add it to your Facebook profile – remember it is not only your friends that see your Facebook (or other social-) profile. Other people looking for potential friends will also see your profile from time to time.

6. Add it to your forum signature – if you are active on any internet forum, you will probably have the capability to create a signature that appears beneath every post you make. Depending on the size of the forum, it could mean a lot of exposure.

7. Add it to your emails – most email servers allow you to add a signature to your emails. Add your physical address and contact details, but also add your website address.

Lastly, add it to any branding items you give away. While it may not be visible to everybody on a key ring, it could still remind the user when he or she needs your products or services. On the other hand, printing it on a T-shirt or golf cap will have it clearly visible to everyone who sees the recipient wearing it.

And all of it is done using money you will spend in any case – all you are doing is simply “adding another entrance to your business” – to make it easier and more convenient for people to explore your offer, and communicate their needs.
